Rhylite Bottle House
In starting this blog, don't ask me why I have decided to start with a picture of the bottle house, I just am. This house was built in the western ghost town of Rhylite
and, to be honest, I don't remember if it was in California or Nevada. I will look it up later and let you know, because I am sure you won't sleep good until you know. Anyway, this house was built using beer bottles and a cement/mortar type substance. Built in the early 1900's, the builder of this establishment had a vision for recycling that should make the tree-huggers of today weep. Don't take the tree-hugger comment too seriously, I believe we all need to conserve and do our part to keep this earth as beautiful as its Maker designed it to be. Now, I wonder if we could use empty 2-liter diet pepsi bottles and have a similar outcome? I'm thinking not. By the way, the little fellow with the cane in the left foreground of the picture was the gatekeeper and local expert on this house. He stood and spouted off facts the entire time we were allowed to visit. The tour guide gave us 10 minutes, we could have listened for hours.
